There are a couple of things to think about when it is time to replace your powerhead.  First and foremost, are you looking for just a powerhead or a wand too?  The other important thing to look at is the width of the powerhead.

Let’s take a closer look at some good options for central vacuum powerhead replacement.

ZVac Central Vacuum Powerhead

The ZVac powerhead is 14″ wide, and has rubber wheels that won’t leave a mark which makes it a great choice for non-carpeted areas as well as carpeted areas.

You can adjust the carpet height to make sure you are getting the right suction for the area you are cleaning.

This model comes with an integrated wand, which may be a downside for storage.

Electrolux Rugmaster BM1393

While this model will fit any central vacuum system with a 1-1/4″ vacuum hose, it is especially popular among Electrolux owners.  Another name for this system is Beam, though it is manufactured by Electrolux.

One benefit of this powerhead is that the height will adjust unlike some other models, so you can go between different carpet types and hard floors with ease.

This wand is also detachable from the powerhead itself.

The wand this powerhead comes with has a quick connect release from both the powerhead and the hose which is very handy.

This wand telescopes, which means it adjusts as a single piece and collapses easily for storage.  This is a helpful feature if your kids like to help you vacuum!  You can adjust it to their height quickly and without issue.

Cen-Tec Systems Powerhead

This powerhead also has an option to come without the wand.  However, this wand is telescoping, so if you do not have a telescoping wand currently it is a great option to have.

One of the best things about this model is the bumpers around the powerhead so you don’t damage walls and molding if you get a bit overzealous with your vacuuming.

It also features a unique QuietDrive system which is quite on both carpets and hard floors.

Central Vacuum Electric Powerhead Nozzle

If you are in the market for a powerhead without a wand, this model is not to be missed since so many central vacuum powerheads do include the wand.

This vacuum head features will fit any 1 1/4″ wand that has a button lock, it is not a quick connect powerhead like some of the other options we looked at.

What is a Central Vacuum?

If you are reading this article you probably already know the answer.  This was a very popular item put in houses in the 1980s while they were being built.  There is a large canister in the basement that houses the vacuum itself, with hose outlets in the rooms of the hose.

You just need to carry your hose and powerhead and other attachments around the house instead of lugging a heavy vacuum.  Because the vacuum device itself can be much larger than a traditional vacuum, it also has much more suction than many other models.

While it is difficult to retrofit a central vacuum into an existing home, it can be done.

Do You Need a Central Vacuum Powerhead?

Central vacuum devices are powerful by design, but a powerhead really adds another level of cleaning.  The power in the powerhead refers to the brush inside the head.

This brush is powered and spins fast, allowing you to get a deeper clean that is especially important for carpets, although all the powerhead reviewed in this guide feature non marking wheels that allow you to also clean hard surfaces.

If you were using a brush head that was not powered, the brushes would spin under the power of the vacuum suction itself.  While this isn’t necessarily a bad thing, some of the sucking power will need to be used to spin the brush, which means less power to actually suck up dirt!

If you have a central vacuum system in your home and your home has carpet, finding the best powerhead for your central vacuum is an absolute must!

We’ve shown you the best central vacuum powerhead, but don’t forget you also need a hose.  Be sure that the host fits the wand you are also using.

One of the main benefits of a central vacuum is you aren’t lugging it up and down the stars.  If the wand, powerhead, and hose are a bit too much to carry still, consider having one for each floor.
