Fantastic Toys for 5 Month Olds

Choosing toys for babies is always a challenge. Babies change and grow so fast, that you don’t want to buy something they won’t be interested in in another month or two.

On the other hand, you want to make sure your baby will be able to use the toys immediately! It’s also important to pick toys that will entertain the adults in a baby’s life since they will be doing quite a bit of playing as well.

Here is our cultivated list of the best toy for a 5 month old. Each and every toy on this list is perfect for the baby you are shopping for as we’re taking a look at the unique developmental needs of babies in this age range.

Now, let’s take a closer look at each of them!

This Baby Einstein activity baby gym is one of our favorites, since it grows with your baby.  Right now, it is perfect for tummy time, as well as encouraging babies to kick their legs to play the piano to relieve excess gas.  By the way, the piano detaches so the child can use it as it grows.

This toy really focuses on language development with four different languages, English, Spanish, French, and German.  As expected with any Baby Einstein toy, it also features over 70 melodies and sounds, and countless activities great for sensory development.

Manhattan Toy Classic Baby Beads

Manhattan Toy Classic Baby Beads Wood Rattle, Teether, and Clutching Toy This is a fantastic wooden toy that also comes in a natural unpainted finish which you can find on the product page.

Baby can move the beads around, and really work on those motor skills, whether they are sitting up or on their tummy.

These beads are also great for chewing, which of course is important in this age range.

This is a great classic rattle toy with a fresh new take, and is really unique.

HAO Organic 2pc Baby Wooden Teethers

These adorable, all natural organic teethers are a crowd pleaser for any baby.

They can chew on the fun beads, or the animal. They can also practice their motor skills by gripping either.

These teeters are designed to keep a baby entertained, and they can work on motor skills as they learn to move the balls through the holes of the wooden teeether.

Manhattan Toy Winkel

This is a favorite in our hose, at five months and beyond! It can be gripped from any which way, and is very easy to chew on.

It is also easy for a baby to carry around as they become more and more mobile.

It can even be thrown around, and is great for playing catch with a baby. With so many surfaces to grip and chew, it will keep a baby endlessly entertained.

This has to be one of my all around favorite baby toys.

haakaa Teethers for Babies

This is an all around great teether for baby to grip.

It has a chewy texture, and is made of food grade silicon. They are great for comping on as those teeth come in!

They can be put in the refrigerator or freezer to help soothe the babies gums.

B. toys by Battat ABC Block Party Baby Blocks

These blocks have to be one of my favorites on this list.

They are easy to grip and chew, and have vivid colors. Each block also has an insert of a specific shape for baby to work on this motor skills.

They also have all different textures.

Any baby will also be thrilled to knock over a tower of them!

This one is probably the most fun for both baby and adult on this list, and we really love building toys in general to build cognitive skills.

Who Do You See?  Fish Cloth Book

A cloth book is a must for any baby.  This soft book is ultra chewable, and teaches basic language development like numbers and colors.  This is an easy to read book you can read over and over again, and is full of bright colors.

It is also great for developing tactile senses since it has plenty of things to grab on to, and it makes a crinkling noise that will endlessly entertain a baby.

A new activity is on each and every page for this book, which is also great for visual development and ultra portable.

teytoy Baby Playmat

If you’re looking to focus on all areas of development, like physical development and cognitive development, consider this adorable baby play mat.

It is super soft, and makes a great play surface, and can be easily moved.  It is full of visual stimulation in the form of each letter in the alphabet and an animal scene.

Use it as a play surface for all of these great baby toys, or use it as a tummy time mat, the possibilities are endless.

This makes a great play surface for hard floors, at home or on the go.  Best of all?  It is machine washable!
